In the Media Center - Week of March 6, 2017

Following the video we watched last week about the smart and safe use of technology, kindergarten, first and second graders learned about Bad Kitty and her use of technology.  At the beginning of the book, all Bad Kitty wants to do is to play her video game.  However, her "authority figure" requires that she go outside, draw a picture and then read a book before she can continue playing the game. Ask your student what happens in the end(Hint: she does not end up playing the video game afterall).
Third graders took a "Technology Survey" which provides for an initial discussion about technology us at home, as well as giving me an idea of what students are using and doing at home.  It is also helpful for guiding any additional digital citizenship activities.

For keyboarding, kindergarten students used Keyboard Climber(this worked through Wednesday then then stopped) or Keyboard Zoo(this was used on Thursday and Friday and could be practiced at home), first graders used Dance Mat Typing and second and third graders continued with Typing Club.  You can find out more about these programs, and keyboarding in general on the Media Center website.  First, Second and Third graders practiced accessing these links through the Destiny home page.  I teach this deliberately so that they can more independently access the sites outside of school.
