In the Media Center - Week of November 27, 2016

We will be MAP testing in the Media Center this week on Wednesday and Thursday so there will not be regular classes on those days.  Set-up will either be Monday or Tuesday, and make-ups will be Friday.   Teachers should definitely be sending students for books on Monday, and I will have regular classes.  I will let everyone know about the other days, however, please plan for me to come to your classroom at your regular library time for a lesson.  If this is during your class MAP testing time, please let me know and we can re-schedule if you would like.

Kindergarten and First Grade

In "Sophie's Squash", Sophie befriends a butternut squash who she names Bernice.  Bernice becomes Sophie's playmate until she gets squishy and needs to be planted outside.  In the spring, Bernice gives "birth" to two baby squash, Baxter and Bonnie.  In the sequel, Sophie goes to school for the first time, accompanied by both Baxter and Bonnie.  These are great books about friendship but also about distinguishing between living and non-living things.

Second and Third Grade
In a whole-group setting, students will be introduced to Destiny, the book catalog system used throughout the City Schools of Decatur.  Students will learn about the Destiny Home page, as well as how to search for books.  They are able to use this resource at home to check on the availability of books.  From the Winnona Park Media Center website, on the right side of the page, click on "DESTINY".  There are two available tabs - HOME and CATALOG.
The HOME tab provides short-cuts to many of our online resources.  The CATALOG tab allows you to search our catalog for books.
