In the Media Center - Week of January 11, 2016

Kindergarten

Students used our school subscription to World Book Online's Early World Learning to read, and listen to, stories, nursery rhymes, and songs.  We encouraged them to sing the songs they knew which was so nice to hear.  Students can access this site at home using this website and the login and password available in Infinite Campus.  You can also email Ms. Zeff - izeff@csdecatur.net.

First Grade
First graders were introduced to the typing program - Dance Mat Typing which was produced by the BBC.  They met Gary, the British Goat, who taught them to use both hands and put their fingers on the bumps to type the letters of the home row keys.  You can access this website here.

Second and Third Grade
As an introduction to our series of lessons on Digital Citizenship, students took a "Technology Use Survey" to provide information about how they are using technology at home.  You can see the survey by clicking here.  There were questions about cell phone use, texting, screen time, and eReaders.  We will be having discussions and doing some activities that I'm hoping will help prepare them for the coming years when social media and electronic communication will undoubtedly become a big part of their lives.
