In the Media Center - Week of October 26th

This was the week of our Fall Book Fair.  The books arrive at the end of the day on Monday so I try to get all of the classes into the library on Monday to get new books for the week.  We unpack and set up the books on Monday after school so that Tuesday, every class can come in to make their wish-lists.  This is a list of books they wish they will get.  I explain to the students that they may get the books but they might not.  I also encourage parents to come in to the Fair with their child, if possible. If it is not possible, parents may send money to school and students are given a chance to come shopping during the school day.  We receive 20% of all sales and the money goes to a Library Fund which purchases books and other materials for the the Media Center and classrooms.  For example recently, four Kindle Fires with gift cards were purchased for the third grade classrooms, as well as one for the Media Center.  We are piloting these to see if it would be worthwhile to purchase additional devices for use as eReaders, research tools, and possibly to use with other websites such as Raz-Kids.
