We have been practicing many of our Design Principals this week as we have been sharing our Media Center with Mr. Reading's class for most of this week. Some classes were able to have their lessons while others will wait until next week.
Kindergarten - Students continued to practice on Kid Pix incorporating the number part of their street address into the picture of their house. They were able to either draw the picture using the "pencil" tool or add it with the "text" tool using the numbers on the keyboard. They will soon be ready to make their final product.
First Grade - First grade learned that there are actually two sides to the keyboard and that each hand types certain letters. They practiced this using the Key Seeker website with their left "monkey paw" and right "monkey paw." This will be the beginning of a series of programs they will be using this year to practice keyboarding skills. Second Grade - Second graders were, or will be, introduced to a typing program called, "Keyboarding without Tears" this year. We will start by using it at school but I want them to be comfortable with it before they use it at home.
Third Grade - Third graders were, or will be, introduced to a typing program/website called "Typing Club." However, in anticipation of some writing work they will be doing this year, I went ahead and used their "Google" logins for access to this program/website. Over the summer, CSD moved to Google in Education and thus, every student was assigned a google login. Their logins look like Google email accounts but they will not actually be used for email until middle school whereas other features can be used prior to that. They will definitely be using this login in fourth and fifth grade. Students were reminded that this login is only to be used for school work.
