Kindergarten - Students added their address numbers to their house pictures in KidPix. When a student has learned this, they join the "Address Club" and most of our kindergartens were already members of this exclusive club. Next week they will prepare their final products. It has been amazing to see them master the skills required to manipulate the drawing tools in this program.
First Grade - Students used another typing program called, "Find the Key." You can access it here or click on the "Keyboarding" link to the right. This is a timed game and the students really enjoyed it but it also begins to teach them the location of the keys relative to each other. It also helps they understand that it is better to use two hands for typing - it improves their score.
Second Grade - All of our second graders continued to work on "Keyboarding without Tears." A letter will go home next week with instructions about how to access this at home. It is a little more complicated than I would like which is why I wanted the students to be as comfortable as possible using it on their own.
Third Grade - We continued logging into the Typing Club using our CSD google accounts. Students know that although they look like email addresses, they will not be activated for email until sixth grade. I would like the students to be able to do this as independently as possible before they begin to work on it at home. When students practice typing at home, it will be especially important for families to monitor their posture and hand position. This will be described in a letter that will go home next week.
