Kindergarten and First Grade - Fiction versus Non-Fiction Books
Last week, we only checked out fiction, picture - or everybody books. This week, we learned about the non-fiction section of the library which includes all books that are "not" fiction. This includes informational books about animals, space, rocks and lots of other topics plus joke books, poetry books, cookbooks, and even fairly tales and fables. We also read a book about Dewey, the library cat who was a real cat who lived in a real library in Iowa. This book had two authors who collaborated to write the book - one author was the librarian who owned Dewey and the other was Bret Witter, an author who helped her tell her story. Bret Witter is also a parent at our school.
Second and Third Grade
Second and third graders did slightly different activities depending on their teacher and how much they were able to accomplish last week. Some classes finished the AR STAR test, some learned about their "just right" reading level providing them another tool for picking out books, while others were able to take their time selecting books and reading in the library. We have a selection of magazines and reference books that can only be read in the library.
