In the library - Week of January 27th

Kindergarten - Students were introduced to a kindergarten-friendly keyboarding program called, Key Seeker . They learned that there are two sides to the keyboard - one for each "monkey paw." The left "monkey paw" or hand is the purple side and the right "monkey paw" or hand is the green side. Students may be practicing this in their classrooms and can also practice at home. For some students, I used a washable marker to put a purple and green dot on their hands; some students liked this and found it helpful. First Grade - Students were also introduced to a keyboarding program called " Dance Mat Typing ." We started with Level One and practiced placing our fingers on the "home row" keys. Students learned that every finger is responsible for typing certain letters but that the fingers always rest on the home row keys. In the Media Center - Week of January 25, 2016

Kindergarten - Kindergarten students met two creatures in the woods this week - a snowman and a baby deer. These books are beautifully illustrated by a husband and wife team who use nature photographs to tell their story. You can find out more about the books at the authors' website . First Grade - After taking the STAR reading test last week, first graders went on a "Treasure Hunt" to find "just right" books in the library. Students also learned that their "just right" level is their own private business and possibly different from other students' levels. Some students looked on the yellow cart, some on the purple cart, some in the yellow bins and some in other places in the library. Kindergarten After weeks of practicing their KidPix skills, students finally created their houses complete with address number. Almost all of our students are official members of the "WP Address Club." First Grade To support their study of maps and globes, first graders were introduced to "Pebble Go," a fabulous, kid-friendly, online "encyclopedia." This is a subscription database that our school has purchased to begin teaching research skills. Students are welcome to use the product at home - please email Ms. Zeff for the login and password information. http://www.pebblego.com/login/ Second Grade Students are finally ready to begin practicing their keyboarding skills at home.
