Plot Summary: Exhausted from parenting Froggy, Froggy's dad sends Froggy to sleepaway camp. At Camp Run-A-Muck, Froggy's bunkmates are twin toads and an otter. Froggy then proceeds to do everything the name of the camp would suggest which primarily included irritating the camp's Director - Mr. Mugwort.
Comments: I have always loved the Froggy books - back when there were only three or four(there are now more than 17.) These days, I typically think of chapter books when I think of audio books so I thought I would try an audio version of a picture book. It was useful for a number of reasons. First, it gave me some ideas to use while reading aloud. The intonation, singing, sound effects, etc.
Also, it made think of ways that audio books could be used in the Media Center or the classroom.
Extensions:
1. In preparation for writing their own Froggy book/story, first grade students will read the book as a read aloud or listen to the CD as a class. They will listen to other Froggy titles that are part of the series - perhaps one per day for a week. Then, they will write their own Froggy book.
2. Third grade students will do a similar assignment. Their audience would be younger children. The theme might take place in a local area or be about a specific subject.
3. I love craft projects. Here are some frog-themed ideas that would make great extension ideas.
