With three author visits already scheduled, we are off to a great start this new school year. Peter Brown and Aaron Reynolds will visit in August, with Carmen Agra Deedy in November. Aaron Reynolds and Peter Brown are the author and illustrator of a soon-to-be released sequel to "Creepy Carrots" - "Creepy Pair of Underwear". Peter Brown will be visiting with second and third graders in mid-August, and Aaron Reynolds will be visiting with all grades as part of the Decatur Book Festival and also promoting his new book, "Nerdy Birdy Tweets." The dates are on the Winnona Park website calendar with details to follow about book pre-orders. Speaking of websites, the City Schools of Decatur has a new one as of last week. It is still a work in progress so if you have any questions, comments or feedback, please email me directly at izeff@csdecatur.net. I will be updating the photos at the top as soon as the students return to school.
We will continue our Birthday Book Program this year. Forms will go home in Thursday folders or you can download your copy here. The cost is a donation to the Media Center with funds used to purchase books primarily from Little Shop of Stories. Students select from a variety of brand new books with a sticker placed in the front of the book, and can be the first to check out their birthday book. Once the book is returned, other students may then check it out.
For our first week in the library, all students will visit the library for a "tour" and read aloud. We will begin book check-out the second week of school. The book I will be sharing is called, "The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes" and is an age-appropriate story about having a growth mindset - the perfect way to start the new school year off right.
