Week of August 1st and August 8th, 2016

In addition to learning and practicing our media center routines in their first visit to the Media Center, all students were introduced to our national parks through the picture book, "Our Great Big Backyard."  Written in honor of the centennial anniversary of our national park system, as well as the Bush family's love of nature, the book is about a family who travels the county visiting national parks and spending time together outside.  This book also connects to our Expeditionary Learning Design Principle - The Natural World.  Third graders did get to check out books - one of the privileges they will enjoy throughout the year.

For the second week of school, all students will be checking out books, although kindergarten will keep their books in the classroom until after winter break.  Students will visit the library's nature table, as well as have a "Shelfie" taken of them with their library book.  Kindergarten and first graders will be drawing pictures and adding them to our "Natural World" mural.  Second and Third graders will share books they read over the summer and have a chance to view scenes from the national parks.
