Kindergarten
Although students had already seen and used the resource Pebble Go on the Activboard in their classrooms, today they were able to use it themselves on a laptop. PebbleGo is a very age-appropriate, online resource that was purchased by our school for students to use for research. It features a number of topics that are Georgia standards, as well as others of interest to elementary school students such as dinosaurs. The website can be found at www.pebblego.com. You will need to ask your student the login information, email me - izeff@csdecatur.net, or check the online passwords sheet in Infinite Campus.
First Grade
All first graders took the STAR reading diagnostic reading test this week. Some students had already taken it earlier in the year, or last year, depending on their reading ability. This test provides a reading range using the Accelerated Reader program. This is particularly helpful in giving students and parents another strategy for picking out "just right" books. Books in the library are leveled using this system, and in addition, parents can visit the AR website - www.arbookfinder.com - to get information on book levels for books from home or from the public library. If you have any questions about AR, please see Ms. Zeff - izeff@csdecatur.net or your child's teacher.
Second Grade and Third Grade
Second and third graders viewed the video, "Safety Smart Online" as part of our continued discussion and learning about "Digital Citizenship." As I told the students, it's about being smart, polite, and safe online. You can preview the movie here. The hope is that if we start a dialogue now with our students about these issues, that as they get older and begin using online communication more regularly, they will be better equipped to deal with some of the issues that arise.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this - izeff@csdecatur.net, or please stop by the media center.
