Principal Wiseman was turned into a robot in front of kindergarten, first and second grade students by our visiting author and illustrator - Adam Rubin and Dan Salmieri.
Kindergarten
After doing such good work on our house pictures, students were able to use KidPix "just for fun." They used stamps, spray paint, paintbrush, backgrounds and stickers. They could erase with the vacuum cleaner as many times as they wanted. Even Ms. Zeff learned some new things about KidPix from the Kindergartener's. We also talked about the Book Fair next week, and the Read - A - Thon the following week which includes a school-wide Pajama Day on Monday, November 2nd.
And finally, on Wednesday, we enjoyed the author/illustrator team - Adam Rubin and Dan Salmieri who turned Mr. Wiseman into a robot.
First Grade
Maps and Globes and Continents were the words we used this week when we identified the seven continents on maps AND globes. Students checked off each continent as they found it on the globes and maps in the library this week. They were able to see different types of maps - some were easier to see and read than others, as well as different types and sizes of globes.
Second Grade
Students spent one more class period practicing keyboarding at school. We will work on it again but not regularly. They are ready to begin practicing their keyboarding skills at home. Third Grade
Students spent one more week practicing keyboarding at school. We will work on it again but not on a regular basis. They are getting more comfortable logging in with their Google password and I think they are already making progress on the keyboarding.

Third graders are receiving their "Google Driver's Licenses" which is their official, City Schools of Decatur login for Google applications. Although the login looks like an email address, they will not be able to use it for this purpose until middle school. In the meantime, however, there are other applications that can take advantage of this access to Google. The first we are using is the Typing Club, a keyboarding program. Students have been practicing logging in and typing using this program. They know how to get to the login page from the Media Center website. You may also click here - https://csdecatur.typingclub.com/. As your student will explain to you, their login name is fairly long but with practice, is getting easier to use.
An example is: 25kermitfrog@csdecatur.net. The first name and last name are your child's full name without hyphens, and it is not case sensitive. They can tell you what the "25" stands for. The password is "student12345" - the word "student" followed by their lunch number.
