Kindergarten - Kindergarten students met "Woolbur" this week in the library. It was written by Leslie Helakoski and illustrated by Lee Harper. This book has a great connection to the design principle, "the Primacy of Self-Discovery." We have the book in our library or you can click here for a video of the book read aloud by a group of fourth graders in New York.
--> First Grade - First graders did two different activities this week. They took their first STAR diagnostic reading test. This provides a reading range using the Accelerated Reader program. This is particularly helpful in giving students and parents another strategy for picking out "just right" books. Books in the library are leveled using this system, and in addition, parents can visit the AR website - www.arbookfinder.com - to get information on book levels for books from home or from the public library. Students have also been using a new online resource - PebbleGo. Access PebbleGo from this website - http://www.pebblego.com/login/ or from the "Online Resources" page of the Winnona Park website. Your student should be able to tell you the password - HINT: It's the name of our school.
First grade students continue to visit the library throughout the week as they need new books.
Second Grade - Students formed grouped and discussed their technology use based on the results of the technology survey from last week. They were able to talk to other students who used, or did not use, different types of technology. I learned that we have many users of Minecraft, many students use tablets, and a handful have email addresses.
Third Grade - Students formed grouped and discussed their technology use based on the results of the technology survey from last week. They were able to talk to other students who used, or did not use, different types of technology.
