Kindergarten
Kindergarten students did a great job returning their books this week. Most students were able to check out another book to take home. All classes watched the video, "Safety Smart Online" which features Disney characters but teaches some important lessons such as:
1. Information posted on the Internet lasts forever
2. Do not post messages, pictures or videos that could hurt or embarrass another person
3. Avoid interacting with people on the Internet that you don't know - they might not be who they say they are
4. Put down your screen and go outside and play !!!
First Grade
This week and next week, first graders will be doing two activities. First, they will be taking their first STAR diagnostic reading test. This will give us a reading range using the Accelerated Reader program. This is particularly helpful in giving students and parents another strategy for picking out "just right" books. Books in the library are leveled using this system, and in addition, parents can visit the AR website - www.arbookfinder.com - to get information on book levels for books from home or from the public library. The other activity is an introduction to a new online resource - PebbleGo. Access PebbleGo from this website - http://www.pebblego.com/login/ or from the "Online Resources" page of the Winnona Park website. Your student should be able to tell you the password.
First grade students continue to visit the library throughout the week as they need new books.
Second Grade
Second grade students took a Technology Use Survey to share how they use technology at home. This will help us to continue our Digital Citizenship Unit and lead to a discussion of how we must be "Safety Smart Online." The online version of the survey can be found here if you are interested in seeing the questions.
Third Grade
Third grade students took an online Technology Use Survey to share how they use technology at home, as well as to practice their keyboarding skills. This will help us to continue our Digital Citizenship Unit and lead to a discussion of how we must be "Safety Smart Online." The survey can be viewed here. The results of the survey will be shared with families and discussed at our Parent Information Session on Wednesday, February 4th at 6:30 PM in the Cafeteria.
