Plot Summary: A background story is provided to set the stage for Marian Anderson's famous concert at the Lincoln Memorial. Although denied access to perform at Constitution Hall for 4,000 people, the concert attracted 75,000 people and was the first major gathering at that site for the cause of civil rights.
Comments: This book did a good job of setting the stage for Marian Anderson's performance. It addressed the historical events leading up to the concert, the organizations involved, as well as some of the key individuals. It also addressed the role of the individual American in pushing forth the cause of civil rights.
