Plot Summary: In this British tale reminiscent of "Beauty and the Beast," a dog rescues a wealthy man from harm and in turn, grants the dog anything he wants from the man's house. The dog asks for, and receives, the man's daughter. The girl goes to live with dog and after learning lessons about compassion and kindness finds happiness in the end.
Comments: A wolf-like dog living in a palace makes the adult reader a bit suspicious but the children will enjoy this tale. The colorful illustrations give it the look of a Russian tale.
